Ingredients
  

  • lbs ground beef
  • 4 medium potatoes thinly sliced
  • 1 small onion thinly sliced
  • 1 can 10.5 oz cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons chopped parsley optional garnish

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a bowl combine ground beef, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and smoked paprika.
  3. Shape the mixture into 5–6 hamburger steak patties.
  4. Heat olive oil in a skillet and lightly brown the patties for 2–3 minutes per side.
  5. Grease a baking dish and layer half of the sliced potatoes on the bottom.
  6. Add half of the sliced onions over the potatoes.
  7. Place the browned hamburger steaks on top of the layers.
  8. In a bowl whisk together cream of mushroom soup and beef broth until smooth.
  9. Pour the gravy mixture evenly over the casserole.
  10. Cover with foil and bake for 35 minutes.
  11. Remove foil, sprinkle cheddar cheese on top, and bake for another 10 minutes until bubbly and golden.
  12. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve warm.

Notes

  • Slice potatoes thinly so they cook evenly in the oven.
  • You can substitute cream of mushroom soup with cream of onion or cream of
  • celery.
  • For extra flavor add sautéed mushrooms or bell peppers to the casserole.
  • This dish pairs perfectly with buttered green beans or a fresh garden salad.
